Effect of alkylphospholipids on trafficking of cholesterol from the plasma membrane to the endoplasmic reticulum. Plasma membrane cholesterol in the HepG2 cells was labelled during incubation with 2 µCi [7(n)3-3H]cholesterol for 1 h in serum-free medium. Then, cells were incubated for 1 h with 25 µM HePC, edelfosine, ErPC or perifosine or without any additions (control). The fraction of plasma membrane cholesterol that was esterified is expressed in terms of the percentage of esterification of the total labelled cholesterol and represents the mean ± SEM of two independent experiments conducted in triplicate. *P < 0.01 when compared with control values.
