Effect of dexamethasone on salmeterol and histamine-enhanced IL-1β-induced IL-6 and IL-8 release. BEAS-2B cells were either left untreated (○) or were incubated with: salmeterol (0.1 µM) (□), dexamethasone (1 µM) (•) or a combination of salmeterol (0.1 µM) plus dexamethasone (1 µM) () for 1 h, prior to stimulation with various concentrations of IL-1β (0.01–1 ng·mL⁻¹) in the absence and presence of histamine (100 µM). Cells were harvested after 6 h, and the supernatants were analysed by elisa for IL-6 and IL-8 release. Data (n= 4), expressed as pg·mL⁻¹, are plotted as means ± SEM.
