FRET efficiencies for a single donor-acceptor pair within an oligomer of size n

Estimates of the apparent FRET efficiency at different ratios of acceptor to donor were analyzed in terms of Equations 10 (Eappddq) and 11 (Eappase) to obtain a separate estimate of the pairwise efficiency (E) for each set of data and a single estimate common to both sets. Apparent efficiencies were calculated according to Equations 1 and 2 with a correction for photobleaching of the donor (i.e. kD = kDec) or with no correction (i.e. kD = kDe), as described in the text. The fitted curves obtained with single values of E common to both sets of data are shown in Fig. 5.
