The tree, based on ClustalW alignment of sequences identified by BLAST searches using ScPom33, ScPer33, and HsTMEM33 (highlighted in bold), was constructed with the Jalview software (www.jalview.org; Waterhouse et al., 2009) based on the percentage of identity between the proteins. Asterisks in the consensus line denote residues that are identical in all three proteins sequences, and periods indicate residues that are either identical or similar in at least two out of the three sequences.
