Schematic of the modified two-component box model used to evaluate the electrostatics of a DNA probe layer. The boundary condition at the surface is the applied voltage, the probe layer is approximated as a region of constant monomer/charge density, and counterion screening is allowed only outside the layer and modeled using a modified Poisson-Boltzmann equation.
