1. Tumors with ill-defined clinical borders
2. Recurrent tumors
3. Aggressive tumors
4. Large tumors
5. Tumors with perineural invasion
6. Tumors located in embryonic fusion planes
7. Tumors extending to bone and cartilage
8. Tumor locations with a high risk for recurrence (lips, ears, etc.)
9. Tissue conservation critical for functional/aesthetic outcome (Fig. 2)
10. Tumors in immunocompromised patients
11. Tumors arising in irradiated skin
