Nominal $B_{1}^{+}$ , off-resonance behavior out to ±5 kHz for the (a) 30°, (b) 60°, (c) 90°, and (d) 180° BIR-4 (dashed lines) and optimized composite (solid lines) pulses of Fig. 6. Vertical dashed lines denote the ±250 Hz optimization region. At nominal $B_{1}^{+}$ , both pulses show remarkably similar off-resonance behavior and are obviously unsuitable for slice-selection.
