The fenestrae are grouped in sieve plates, but are intermingled with elements of the cytoskeleton, i.e. microtubules and microfilaments. Within the electron-dense sieve plate cytoplasm, saccular interconnecting cisternae are seen. These structures are fixation dependent and are only found in rabbit liver.
