(a) Concentrated cell supernatant from cells infected with DV-3 (▾), vVCPko (•) or vVCP–FLAG (○) were used in a haemolysis-inhibition assay as described by Morgan (2000). (b) Concentrated supernatant from cells infected with DV-3 was pre-incubated with buffer alone (▾), normal mouse serum (○) or pooled serum from mice immunized with 50 μg VCP–FLAG (•). The percentage haemolysis was calculated by using the mean OD₄₀₅ value for red blood cells lysed in water as 100 %.
