Occurrence of squalene-hopene cyclase (shc) and hpnP methylase genes in distantly related Bacteria. The tree represents phylogenetic relationships among bacterial species and was constructed by maximum likelihood using five concatenated core proteins (Adk, RpoB, GyrB, RecA, and SecY). Blue Bars in inner ring indicate strains with shc; Red Bars in outer ring indicate strains with hpnP. All sequenced isolates containing shc and/or hpnP are depicted as well as representatives from other bacterial families. The Bacillus (34 isolates) and Burkholderia (58 isolates) genera have been collapsed.
