Aluminium resistance of the T₁ lines. Al³⁺ resistance was estimated by measuring relative root growth in nutrient solution containing AlCl₃. The 13 T₁ transgenic lines were tested over three separate experiments shown in (A–C). Control lines BW26 and ET8 were included in every experiment. Net root growth in 5 and 20 µm AlCl₃ (pH 4·3) treatments was calculated relative to the net growth in the zero Al³⁺ control treatment. The dotted line indicates the relative root growth of the ET8 line in 20 µm AlCl₃ in each experiment.
