Data are from more than 400 lakes and ponds in the Canadian High Arctic collected by our laboratories (53). Note that some of our Arctic sites recorded erroneously high TP lakewater values as a result of resuspended particulate matter (54), which is not bioavailable for uptake by organisms. When these sites are removed, the mean TP concentration decreases to <10 μg L⁻¹.
