Three orthogonal views through the brain images of two individuals used in our 3D analysis. The brain image of one individual was selected as the reference image (top row). The brain image of the other individual was registered and resliced into the coordinate space of the reference by maximizing mutual information (Viola and Wells, 1997) across images. The resliced image is called the float image (bottom row). The right column shows the two axial slices (slice number 50) used in our 2D analysis. The X-axis is left to right, the Y-axis is posterior to anterior, and the Z-axis is inferior to superior of the brain.
