Activation of nAChRs on granule cells by ACh pressure application decreased GABAA currents. The internal patch pipette solution contained only 0.2 mm EGTA. The bath contained atropine (0.5 μm) and DNQX (20 μm) to inhibit muscarinic and glutamatergic receptors, respectively. A, Puffer-applied ACh (1 mm; 1 s; black bar) activated a small nAChR current and decreased GABA-induced current (puffer applied at 0.2 mm; 0.3 s; upward arrow; black trace) when compared with the control GABA-induced current taken from the same cell just before the ACh treatment.
