BP, blood pressure; HDL, high-density lipoprotein; eGFR, estimated glomerular filtration rate, BMI, body mass index; eGFR, estimates glomerular filtration rate; UACR, urinary albumin/creatinine ratio; LDL, low-density lipoprotein; HDL, high-density lipoprotein; . Data are mean±standard deviation for continuous traits (except for triglycerides, Angiopoietin-2, Tie-2 and alcohol consumption where median (quartile1, quartile3) are provided) and percentages for categorical data.

Definitions: poorly controlled hypertension: participants on antihypertensive medication, but with systolic BP ≥140 or diastolic BP ≥ 90 mmHg; well controlled hypertension: participants on antihypertensive medication and with a systolic BP <140 and a diastolic BP <90 mmHg; obesity: body mass index ≥ 30 kg/m2); abdominal obesity: waist circumference ≥ 89 cm in women and ≥ 102 cm in men; dyslipidemia: total cholesterol > 200 mg/dL; smoking: smoking at least on cigarette per day in the year preceding the examination.
