Horizontal bars indicate means for each group. NH4+/NAE was significantly lower in patients with type 2 diabetes than in control subjects (0.70 ± 0.12 versus 0.94 ± 0.36; P < 0.01). Results represent the mean of two 24-hour urine collections for each participant.
