(A) CLL cells were preincubated for 1 h in the absence or presence of Z-VAD-FMK and then treated with 20 μM SAHA. (B) One hour prior to exposure to SAHA (20 μM), cells were preincubated with selective inhibitors of caspase-3 (C3), -6 (C6), -8 (C8) and -9 (C9), and the pan-caspase inhibitor as a control. (C) Protein extract of CLL cells from four patients plated with or without 20 μM SAHA for 48 h were analyzed by western blotting for PAPRP-1, FLIPL and actin expression.
