Results from Study 2 in which children were asked to pick which of two people would be more useful expert on the same category. Shown here are the average scores for all artifacts and for all living kinds (on a scale ranging from .5 (representing picking at random (50%) between the plausible and implausible domains) to a 1.0 (representing 100% choice of the plausible domain)), with standard errors shown. As in the preliminary study and Study 1, kindergarteners were more able to discern the plausible domains for artifacts than for living kinds.
