Examples of low-pass and high-pass filtered images used in the study. Negative Δs values represent those images that have been blurred and positive Δs values represent those that have been sharpened. There was no change in slope, Δs is zero, for the original images. These images were presented on a luminance-calibrated display, so the appearance in this figure may differ from that seen by the subjects.
