IsoKs induce concentration-dependent dysfunction in nonsynaptosomal brain mitochondria. Mitochondria were challenged with sequential Ca2+ additions (5 μM each) in the presence of IsoKs (0.5–2 μM, lines 2–5) until Ca2+ was spontaneously released. Mitochondria were incubated with glutamate/malate (5 mM). To induce complete swelling a non specific pore forming agent, alamethicin (Ala) was added at the end of each incubation.
