Mutant phenotype is specific for sulphate deficiency. The specificity to nutrient deficiency was assayed for the mutants on the medium with specific nutrient deficiency (N, nitrogen; P, phosphate; K, potassium; S, sulphur) as described in the Materials and methods. The seeds of the mutant sue3 and sue4 and the wild type (wt) were sown on the same plate, germinated vertically, and grown for 12 d before primary root length was measured.
