TABLE 2.

Voltage-Dependent Inactivation Parameters in PC12 Cells

V50 (mV) k
Control −0.1 ± 5.4 −32.6 ± 9.2
5μM AL 0.8 ± 5.2 −36.4 ± 8.3
TTX −9.5 ± 9.4 −29.8 ± 4.9
TTX + AL −9.8 ± 5.5 −31.2 ± 6.3
GVIA 40.4 ± 10.3a −40.6 ± 17.3
GVIA + AL −1.0 ± 7.4b −45.3 ± 9.6
NIM −13.4 ± 2.4 −27.8 ± 2.6
NIM + AL −11.6 ± 3.9 −20.2 ± 5.0

Note. Parameters were estimated using the Boltzman equation (I/Imax = 1/(1 + e−(VV50)/k)), where V50 is the half-inactivation voltage and k is a measure of steepness. No significant differences were observed within treatments, except that cells exposed to both GVIA and AL exhibited inactivation at a significantly more negative potential than cells exposed to GVIA alone.

a

Extrapolated V50 of inactivation, as full inactivation is likely only theoretical under these conditions. Values are reported as the mean ± SEM, n = 5–7 cells per condition.

b

Significance from GVIA-treated cells (p < 0.05, paired t-test).
