EPCs were cultured another 14 DIV without growth factors [epidermal growth factor (EGF), basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF), and insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1)] to allow endothelial maturation. (A,D,G) Nestin (red), (B) Ki67 (green), (E) CD31 (green), (H) vWF (green), and (C,F,I) merged images. vWF-positive, CD31-positive, and Ki67 were occasionally positive (0 or 1 cell/high-power field) in mature ECs that did not express nestin.
