Gross anatomy of upper and lower incisor teeth of NBCe1−/− mice at 14 days of age. Wild-type animal (WT; left panel) is shown here with an NBCe1−/− (mutant or null, Mut/Null; right panel) littermate. NBCe1−/− animals show the chalky-white enamel of the incisor teeth. Magnification was increased to image the NBCe1−/− animal to show its abnormal enamel in more detail. The characteristic iron-induced pigmentation of mice incisors is absent in the enamel of NBCe1−/− animals.
