A left thoracotomy was performed on 5 New Zealand White rabbits and the proximal circumflex coronary artery was ligated. Immediately following ligation, rabbits were injected with 200ug of RTP801-Luc alone or complexed to either WSLP in a 10:1 N:P ratio or TETA in a 6 or 12:1 w/w ratio (5 total injections) surrounding the area at risk. The left ventricle of the hearts were excised, weighed and homogenized, four days following injection. Luciferase activity was measured and normalized against tissue weight. Differences between the groups were statistically significantly (p<0.05, One-way ANOVA). Luciferase expression was almost 10x greater than naked DNA alone and 4x greater than WSLP.
