E. coli strain LMD439 (MC4100 Δara att λ::hasDE) was transformed with the control plasmid vector pTrc99C or a derivative recombinant plasmid containing hasA alleles under the control of an IPTG-inducible promoter. Strains were streaked onto LB plates supplemented with SDS or arabinose (ara) with or without IPTG and incubated overnight at 37°C.
