Average distance distributions for the Top Scoring candidates provided by MatureBayes (red) and BayesMiRNAfind (blue) on a common human/mouse blind test set. The set consisted of 181 miRNA precursors which were correctly predicted by BayesMiRNAfind to contain a mature miRNA. BayesMiRNAfind correctly identified the functional stem for 104/181, which were used for the respective distance distribution. The distance distribution for MatureBayes was generated using 85/181 precursors for which the correct stem was predicted, using the Top Scorer procedure. The statistical difference between the two distributions was evaluated using the Kolmogorov-Smirnov Test, confirming that the two datasets come from different distributions (p-valueInline graphic).
