Tissue-specific expression of identified OR-coding genes. Reverse transcriptase (RT)-PCR was performed using gene-specific primers for each receptor type and cDNAs of male (left) and female (middle) M. sexta antennae (control using water instead of cDNA, right). PCR products were visualized after gel electrophoresis using ethidium bromide staining. All bands were of the expected size, based on primer design. MsexOR-4 and MsexOR-1 showed male-specific expression, while MsexOR-5 and MsexOR-6 could only be detected in cDNA of female antennae.
