Caspase-12 activation in sleep-deprived young and aged mice. A representative Western blot showing procaspase-12 and cleaved expression in young and aged animals subjected to 6 h of sleep deprivation (SD) and their matching diurnal controls (Con). Both procaspase-12 and cleaved caspase-12 was detected with a specific polyclonal antibody. Induction of caspase-12 was significantly higher in aged than in young mice (n = 6; two-tailed t test, *p = 0.01). This was further increased with sleep deprivation in old but not young animals.
