Subjects aged <50 years were previously reported (Rajkowska et al 1999). Note that there is a statistically significant correlation between the neuronal density and age in MDD but not in the control group, indicating a greater age-related diminution of neuronal density in depressed subjects as compared with age-matched nondepressed control subjects.
