Demonstration of iron shuttling from DFP iron complex to deferoxamine (DFO) when iron citrate is co-incubated with DFO and DFP. The rates of formation of complexes of DFO or DFP from iron-citrate (10:100µM) in 20mM MOPS (pH 7.4) were compared by spectrophotometric scanning of the complexes formed between 350 and 700 nm every 0.5 hour for 19.5 h. For clarity, only selected traces of the final reaction mixtures are shown as follows: A: DFO (10 µM) and iron citrate (10:100 µM), B: DFP (30 µM) and iron citrate (10:100 µM), C1: DFO (10 µM) and DFP (30 µM) with iron citrate (10:100 µM) scanned immediately after mixing, C2: scan of final reaction mixture of C1. The reaction was initiated by addition of iron citrate.
