Unique structural features around the active center of JMJD6. (A) The active center without binding of alpha-KG. Three aromatic residues Tyr131, Phe133, and Trp174 are aligned but not stacking on each other. (B) The overlay of the active center of JMJD6 with and without alpha-KG. In the presence of alpha-KG, the side chain of PHe133 stacks with those of Tyr131 and Trp174. This may represent a mode of substrate recognition.
