eGFP expression by NIH 3T3 cells that were transfected by various DNA/PEI polyplexes (a) and silenced gene expression by NIH 3T3/eGFP cells transfected by various siRNA/PEI polyplexes (b). Transfection efficiency (a) was determined by multiplying cell transfection rate by mean fluorescence intensity of the cells incubated with various polyplexes (counting total gene product quantity). Gene silencing efficiency (b) was quantified by comparing the mean fluorescence intensity (average expression level) of the cells incubated with various polyplexes, with that of the cells incubated without polyplexes.
