1

Tests for trend were based on general linear regression with dietary pattern score (continuous) as the independent variable. MET-h/wk, metabolic equivalents in hours per week (energy needed per kilogram of body weight per hour of activity divided by the energy needed per kilogram of body weight per hour at rest). By design, the ± SD values for each dietary pattern and factor are 0.0 and 1.0, respectively.

2

P for trend significant (P < 0.05) for all variables listed across this dietary pattern, except for active leisure (MET-h/wk).

3

P for trend significant (P < 0.05) for all variables listed across this dietary pattern, except for high school degree.

4

P for trend significant (P < 0.05) for all variables listed across this dietary pattern.

5

P for trend significant (P < 0.05) for all variables listed across this dietary pattern, except for black, smoking pack-years, BMI, and waist circumference.

6

± SD (all such values).
