Characterization of ρ1-GFP. (A) The chimeric receptor is blocked efficiently by TPMPA. GABA (0–3 μm) and TPMPA were applied while holding the oocyte at −60 mV. (B) The current elicited by GABA (1 μM) and voltage steps from −120 to +40 mV (20-mV steps) were applied to an oocyte expressing ρ1-GFP (Inset). The current–voltage relation gave an equilibrium potential close to −30 mV, similar to the chloride equilibrium potential in oocytes.
