Lane 1 shows an appropriate-size band of NheC consistent with NheC binding to Vero cells, whereas lanes 2 (NheCcys−) and 3 (NheChr−) do not. Lane 4 is the Vero cell preparation without added NheC, and lane 5 shows the NheC alone. Note that the lower-molecular-weight band in lanes 1 to 4 is a cross-reacting protein present in Vero cells.
