The top line shows the sequence obtained from B. pertussis Tohama (BP3385); an identical sequence has also been reported for B. pertussis ATCC 9797 (3). Variants 2 and 3 were found only in B. hinzii, while variants 4 and 5 were found only in B. bronchiseptica. Dashes represent conserved bases; substitutions are indicated by the appropriate letter.
