Expansion kinetics of 3-fold mutants monitored by fluorescence. P-II particles of the various mutants and WT were monitored for their change in spectral center of mass (SCM) (resulting from capsid expansion) following incubation with acidic buffer (pH 4.0). The time for half of the WT particles to expand (t½) is shown in the table as are the rates for mutant expansion as a fraction of the WT expansion rate.
