Alcian blue staining of the PNS. WT (left) and TEC1KO (right) sections through the PNS were stained with Alcian blue for the presence of cartilage. Note that WT chondrocytes contain rounded nuclei and are uniformly aligned, whereas the disorganized mutant chondrocyte nuclei are typically elongated and crescent shaped (black arrows). In addition, the amount of glycosaminoglycan matrix (white arrows) is highly variable in the TEC1KO PNS, which likely contributed to the overall flexibility of the tissue causing severe deviation.
