Glycolipids enhance host protection against JEV infection. Seven-week-old C57BL/6 mice were injected i.p. with 1 μg of compound C1, 7DW8-5, C23, or C34 or with solvent 1 day before virus challenge. The mice were infected i.p. with 5 × 105 PFU of JEV (RP-9 strain) and simultaneously injected intracerebrally with 30 μl PBS. One day after viral infection, the mice were boosted i.p. with 1 μg of compound C1, 7DW8-5, C23, or C34 or with solvent. The mice were monitored daily for 25 days, and the percent of survival is shown. Fourteen mice were included in each experimental group. Survival curve comparisons were performed by statistical analysis by the log rank test using Prism software, and a P value of <0.05 for the result for the treated mice compared to the result for the solvent-treated control mice is indicated (*).
