We simulate the dynamics of a cell population with gamma distributed inter-division times assuming strong or weak correlation between average division times of mothers and daughters (see Section). In the case of the weak correlation (left panels), the data can be fit with the uncorrelated model reasonably well, although the recovered parameters are different from the parameters used in the simulations. For strong correlations, the model is not able to describe the simulated data (right panels).
