Figure 5

Sodium fluorescein was used to determine blood-spinal-cord-barrier (BSCB) permeability at 28 days after SCI in mouse (a) and rat studies (b). Sodium fluorescein (bright green) which has passed through the BSCB is apparent at the lesion site, in an area associated with a small cavity, in mouse tissue (a), with little extension into surrounding tissue. Tracer is found to spread rostral and caudal to the injury site in rat tissue (b). Bar = 167μm.
