The grey arrowheads indicate the edge of the elongating protofibril on top of a fibril. The profile in E corresponding to the white line in B indicates that only two fibers are stacked on top of each other (height differences between blue and red arrows are 6.7 and 8 nm, respectively). The underlying fibril most probably corresponds to two laterally associated protofibrils. Micrographs correspond to successive images separated by 1 s. The scale bar is 30 nm and the height color scale is automatically adjusted during imaging.
