Depletion of mucin level in mice stomachs due to indomethacin-induced acute gastric ulceration and its prevention by BT, TF, and Omez. Ulceration in the mice was induced by indomethacin (18 mg/kg, p. o.). Treatment was carried out for 3 days with BT (40 mg/kg), TF (1 mg/kg), and Omez (3.0 mg/kg) and the gastric mucin was determined by assaying the tissue bound alcian blue. The values are mean ± S.E.M. of three independent experiments, each with 5 mice per group. *P < 0.01, compared to normal group; **P < 0.05, ^τ P < 0.01, compared to ulcerated group.
