Long Evans rat pups were treated with ceramide analogs, D-erythro-N-Acetyl-Sphingosine (C2Cer-bioactive) or D-erythro-Dihydro-N-Acetyl-Sphingosine (C2 Dihydroceramide; C2DCer-inactive) by i.p. injection (see Methods). Protein homogenates prepared in NP-40 lysis buffer were used to measure immunoreactivity in direct binding ELISAs with results normalized to ribonuclear protein level in each well. Results represent the mean ± S.E.M. of the calculated ratios of immunoreactivity. Inter-group statistical comparisons were made using Student T-tests and significant p-values are indicated
