Plasma TG and HDL-c concentrations during a 48 h fast. Plasma TG peaked in the immediate postprandial period (0–4 h) and then declined rapidly by 8 h fasted (P < 0.001). Over the remaining fasting period, diurnal variation was apparent and TG continued to decline modestly (P = 0.031). There was no significant change in plasma levels of HDL-c over the 48 h fast.
