Antitumor effects of mesoporous silica nanoparticles loaded with CPT in mice. Thirty nude mice with xenografts of human breast cancer cell MCF-7 were divided into 5 groups (n = 6) and intraperitoneal injections were started from the 14th day after inoculation. Animals were injected with either saline solution as a control, CPT, FMSNs without loading (FMSN), FMSNs loaded with CPT (FMSN/CPT), or F-FMSNs loaded with CPT (F-FMSN/CPT) twice per week until the end of the experiment (the 68th day). A) Average body weights shown as means ± SD. One mouse in the CPT-treated group was euthanized on the 51st day due to manifestation of severe toxicity.
