(A) PBMCs from healthy controls, early transplant patients and late transplant patients were isolated and incubated overnight in culture media or the subject's plasma. NK cell degranulation was assayed the following day by incubation with K562 cells for 6 hrs at a 1∶5 E:T ratio. (B) IFN-γ production was evaluated in the same groups as used in (A). Values are individual patients and bars represent means. The data show that when cells are maintained in autologous plasma, NK cells from early transplant patients have impaired NK cell degranulation and IFN-γ production.
