Responses to 90 dB SPL airborne sound of the exposed tympanic disk (solid line), stapes footplate (dashed line) and parotic crest (dotted line) in a female Xenopus, as measured with laser vibrometry. The responses of disk and stapes in other experiments were often lower in amplitude than this (closer to the crest), and the stapes did not always follow the tympanic disk so faithfully.
