Uptake of [³H]TC (A) and [³H]ES (B) in neurons and the inhibitory effect of MC-LR, MC-LW, and MC-LF on uptake of [³H]TC (C) and [³H]ES (D). (A and B) Neurons were exposed to varying concentrations of labeled/unlabled TC and ES. (C and D) Cells were exposed to [³H]TC plus TC (7 μM; C) or [³H]ES plus ES (7 μM; D) in the absence (control; Con) or presence of a single MC congener (7 μM). The inhibitory effect was calculated by determining the percent loss of co-incubated versus TC- or ES-exposed neurons (100% uptake). Individual samples were analyzed in triplicate (n = 3), each with technical duplicates; data are mean ± SEM.
